8 p.m.-9 p.m. – Free tour of the Jewelry Making: Past & Present exhibition
The exhibition displays a range of unique jewelry works, across a timeline of around one thousand years, associated with the three principal monotheistic religions in Jerusalem: Islam, Judaism and Christianity. The exhibition also focuses on contemporary jewelry making. Especially for the exhibition, forty five Israeli jewelry makers created works, inspired by items from the museum’s rare collection of Islamic jewelry.
9 p.m.-11 p.m. – Orphaned Land Hosts Mira Awad
Israeli rock band Orphaned Land hosts singer-songwriter Mira Awad in a show devoted to the theme of identity. They will perform, together and separately, songs from their own rich repertoire. The concert will also incorporate elements from a wide range of styles: rock and heavy metal with Jewish folk and eastern Mediterranean music. The emphasis will be on interfaces between Jewish, Muslim and Christian textual elements, taking in verses from the Old Testament, the New Testament and the Koran.
Orphaned Land is the most successful Israeli rock group in the world, performing in no less than 48 countries. It is also very popular in the Arab world. Singer-songwriter Mira Awad, developed a unique synthesis of sounds which marries east and west, and weaves the Arabic language together with western harmonies producing world music that fuses numerous styles and sounds.
On this special evening the two acts, that hail from different worlds, create a musical identity made of numerous and diverse identities that combine to produce a single shared world.
