International Museum Day at the Museum for Islamic Art
Thursday | May 23 2019 | 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
- Free entry! -
On International Museum Day, the Museum for Islamic Art opens its doors to the public, for free, and invites everyone to enjoy Islamic art at its best, and to take a tour of the rare clock collection of Sir David Salomons.
The Program:
There will be a special screening of 2 video art works, created especially for the museum by Nevet Yitzhak, and inspired by it. The works were first displayed as part of the artist’s Orient Express exhibition, presented by the museum in 2014.
The video works are based on color reproduction photographs of items in the museum collection, originally used as material for documentation, drawing and cataloguing of the collection. In these works, Yitzhak offers a reflective reading of the core of the museum collection – ancient practical and cult-related artifacts – and raises issues relating to the role of the museum as a domain in which time is preserved, and actualizes and conveys knowledge.
13:00 – Guided tour of selected museum galleries
10 a.m.-7 p.m. – Creative workshops in the spirit of Islamic arts (for extra payment)
