Khamsa, Khamsa, Khamsa, Khamsa on you, Khamsika and more. As part of the Israel Festival, the Museum for Islamic Art will host a special evening devoted to incantations, charms and protection against the evil eye, inspired by the Khamsa Khamsa Khamsa exhibition which is currently on show at the museum.


20:00 – Graduates of the School of Visual Theater present five original performance works which feed off items in the Khamsa Khamsa Khamsa exhibition. The works include Hugs, No Evil Eye, Hugs, Charm – A Little Workshop for Charms and others.


In addition to the performance work visitors will meet the exhibition curators, artists and designers, who are exhibiting at the museum, for an informal encounter about khamsot, folklore, and magic in Israel of 2018.

21:00 – The Alaev Family, with guest artist Liraz Charhi

Alaiev, a Bukharan tribe of three generations, 6 instrumentalists who live and breathe the music from the cradle, will take the audience on a musical odyssey to the heart of the beliefs, customs and folklore of Tajikistan.


The group comprises 3 generations of the Alaev family – the grandfather Allo Alaev - doyra, his sons Ariel Alaev on accordion and vocals, and Amin on percussion, and his grandchildren – Zvika on clarinet, percussionist Allen, Amir on qanoun, Aviva on violin, Amanda – violin and vocals, and Avraham, the youngest, on darbouka.


The Alaev Family group was founded in 1970, in Tajikistan. Since making aliyah the group has appeared on television, in music shows, at numerous festivals in Israel and around the world, and has collaborated with a large number of artists, including: Mickey Gabrielov, Tamir Muskat, Rita, Yardena Arazi, Dudu Tasa and many more. In the last two years they have appeared at prestigious festivals outside Israel, such as the Roskilde Festival, Pohoda Festival, Krakow Jewish Culture Festival, Paleo, Globalica and Womad.


Liraz Charhi – acclaimed singer and actress created a musical project which fuses Iranian music form the 1960s and 1970s with beats and contemporary electronic music. The project includes covers and original songs written and scored by Liraz together with Iranian artists. Echoing her own life, the music oscillates between melancholic sounds and fast danceable tempos enveloped in sampling and electronic beats made by Rejoicer.
