Open House at the Museum for Islamic Art


The Museum for Islamic Art – General Tour

Guided tours of the iconic Jerusalem building which was built at a museum for Islamic art. It is a modernist stone building that incorporates local elements (such as arches, and narrow vertical windows) which was built, as a museum in the heart of a residential district, by Vera Bryce Salomons. It was designed to display some of the world’s best collections of Islamic art, and based on a wish to bring the peoples of the region closer together. The tours will take in the building and the museum’s rare exhibits.


Friday October 19 – 10 a.m., 12 noon, and 1 p.m.

Saturday October 20 – 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 12 noon and 1 p.m.

In the Footsteps of Time

A tour of the dark and cavernous safe which holds the museum’s permanent display – the clock collection of Sir David Salomons, one of the world’s three most important collections of clocks. The tour will take in the rare clock collection, a live demonstration by the museum’s watchmaker, and the tale of the theft of half of the collection in 1983, and their return to the display a quarter of a century later. The tour will begin with a brief explanation about the museum.

555 Times Khamsa

A guided tour of the largest exhibition of khamsot in Israel, currently on display at the museum. The exhibition includes 555 khamsot of various kinds and styles. The tour will begin with a brief explanation about the modernist stone building with local elements (such as arches, and narrow vertical windows).
